My little helper

Since there's a lot of snow and a bit cold outside, the cat of the house does not go out more than she absolutely has to...
Instead she stays inside and spends most of her time embellishing the kitchen table, piles of clean clothes (never dirty clothes), the living room coach etc, with herself... or as in this case: my ironing board with strips that she thought needed some more pressing... or maybe she put herself there just because she knew I was heading for them...

I haven't done as much sewing as I planned these few days... but I'm getting there... and I do have several projects in my head, but have promised myself to finsih at least three of the ones I'm working on before I can even begin cutting for the new ones...
That will be:
One quilt with just 9-pacth blocks in various batiks (the ones underneath the cat)
Two small bags
One tote bag

Hmm... that counts to four... so I suppose I have four things to finish before I can start another one... we'll see how well that goes!

Unexpected visit

This Wednesday I got a call from a friend who was supposed to be on her way to Ireland with her boyfriend... but due to an old passport (and no time to get an emergency one) she had to stay at home... so she called me and asked if she could spend a couple of days with her sewing machine at my place... which of course she could!

On Friday morning we decided to take som pictures of two of my most recent quilts out in the snow, in front of our house...

And the colours really show against the white snow...

But the best picture is the last one I took... just for fun. It's Ella wrapped in one of the quilts, smiling from ear to ear and the snow flakes dancing around her. The photo almost looks manipulated... black and white in the background and she and the quilt in full colour!

A blue box full of treasures

Hmmm... I began writing here in the beginning of June, planning to share my adventures with my new Janome Horizon 7700, but since I sell sewing machines and that particular model has been quite popular... I haven't managed to keep them for long. Plus... I haven't told anyone about this blog so I suppose I haven't been missed around here either, haha...
However, there's a new machine on the way now and I do have other machines to play with, so I'm not totally helpless!
One of my latest "obsessions" is collecting selvedges! It began in february when I discovered the "Selvage Blog" and thought I'd give it a try. At first I saved too little of the fabric along the edge, but luckily I didn't ruin that many selvedges before I discovered that...

Here are some of my latest collectibles... This is addictive!

And some small things I've made...

Candy for the eyes

Yesterday I received two boxes with fabric.
It's like Christmas every time that happens... and when some of the fabrics sparkle like this... well, it's very hard not to pu the rotary cutter in to them and begin with yet another project... even though I had promised myself NOT to begin with somethung new until I at least had ficished one of the other projects... I always fail there...

Ah well.. there are worse things to fail in than to have too many projects...

Some people keep other things than clothes in their drawers

This morning when i got upstairs to say somethiong to my oldest son I saw that his drawer wasn't properly closed... This is not very unusual... he's a normal teenager and as well as taking emty glasses downstairs and put them in to the dishwasher... closing a drawer can be very difficult...

Anyway... this morning I spotted something that ususally is not there...

It was one of the cats who had decided that the drawer was a perfect bed for her... and she did seem to be comfortable enough anyway!

I wonder if cats ever suffer from stress?

Saturday 12 June 2010

At the moment I'm quite busy preparing for my Summer Quilting Camp, which means cutting fabrics and trying to make as many samples as possible for those who attend to get inspiration from.

Yesterday I was going to make a small wall hanging, making it simple and just do a little bit of quilting. Well... it didn't go quite as I planned... before I knew it the whole thing was covered with free motion quilting!

This was made on my MC6600, but I used the very much loved free motion quilting foot that comes with the Horizon and that can be bought to all other machines. I really do love that foot!

Now it's time to get ready and get to work! It's Saturday and thet means only three ours but I have a feeling I'll be there a little longer today!
